This stunning deep red shawl from the Bishnoi tribe from the desert region of Rajasthan called odhni/odhani was made for weddings. It would sometimes frame the bride's face and sometimes be pulled down to cover the eyes or face completely.
This rare and beautiful shawl is covered in hand-done embroidery and a profusion of mirrorwork, generally done by the bride's mother. It is in two lengths joined by hand stitching. It is in perfect condition. A super example and a real collectors item. It makes a fantastic wall hanging.
The Bishnoi tribe worship the animals as gods and maintain a healthy ecological balance of nature. Their main occupation is cultivation and animal husbandry. They are dedicated followers of their customs.
